Mastering the English Beach

A few weeks ago, we finally started having Summer weather we took my son for a walk on the beach.  English beaches are not always fun.  You have to go prepared.  A impromptu walk on the beach without the proper footwear, was not the best idea.  I was wearing flip flops and after just a few steps onto the beach, I realized my mistake, but it was just too late.  My five year old was excited and headed for the water. I walked painfully through the pebbles and stones to the shore line. As my husband was wearing closed shoes, I asked him to take our son to dip his feet while I tried to find a comfortable place to sit to give me aching feet a rest (unlike sand, sitting on a pebble beach is no easy task). My husband took his shoes off, took our son to the water and quickly gave up dragging him kicking and screaming away from the water.  I decided to try next and walked my son back to the water.  The pain of walking on the stones was awful and although I las...

Kindergarten Cut Day

I'm in the process of planning a Kindergarten cut day for the end of this week.  I've contacted some of the moms from my son's class to plan a sneaky day off for the kids in protest of the ridiculously long British school year.  This term doesn't end until next Wednesday (for an unknown reason, this year it was extended by a week) and I just found out that they will only have five weeks off for summer as well.  Enough is enough.  These kids started school at the age of four with a full day from 9-3:00.  That alone is too much, but to have the school year end in July, extended an extra week along with the summer vacation being cut by a short, it's just unfair!  I'm actually keeping my son home three days this week, but have planned just one day with the other moms at the end of the week (because the kids are more likely to be able to keep a secret with a weekend in between). I was in my son's class on Friday and the kids are tired and fed up.  They are ...

Love this!

I've been really busy lately and haven't had time for blogging, but I just thought I'd share this song.  I heard it today and had to stop what I was doing just to listen to it.  It reminds me of being young and the magic that comes with certain people who come into your life...

Crazy!

Would you believe that in the last dew days, I have been approached by two different US production companies asking me if I'd be interested in doing a TV show on American expats?  Both found me through this blog!  It's crazy!  I didn't think too many people read my blog!  Unfortunately, one was about American expats with businesses and the other was looking for people who have bought a house in the last year.  I don't qualify for either.  I told them that if they ever want to do a show about an stay at home mom expat  who nearly nine years on, still struggles to fit in socially and would like nothing more than to move back to the US - I'm their girl!

It comes with age...

I don't like my last post being one of those woe is me posts so I needed to find a new topic quickly.  Yesterday, a friend shared an article with me that was titled '40 Effed up things about being 40'  It started out with the author going to the drug store to buy her first pair of reading glasses.  She compared herself to a teenager going to buy their first box of condoms (brilliant).  When she went to make the purchase the cashier told her that their mom wore those.  Needless to say, she was mortified.      I can relate to moments like these that hit you like a ton of bricks.  When it suddenly dawns on you that although in your head you are still kinda youthful, you most certainly are no longer considered young!      In the last several months I have been to the doctor about some new medical issues.  As someone with a chronic illness, it's sometimes difficult to decipher which symptoms are relat...
